While many of them fear that they will have to take on additional child care costs and the possibility of their child getting into trouble with so much unsupervised time on their hands, there is a brighter side to this ordeal. Here are a few reasons why parents should be happy about this proposal.•To begin with, these are high school students, so they don't really need a baby sitter. In fact, they can baby-sit their younger siblings. This will not only decrease weekly day care costs, but it will keep these teenagers busy and out of trouble. •Parents not having to drive their teenager(s) to school one day out of the week will enable them to save on some gas. Even if they do not drive their kids to school, they can consider the joy of not having to deal with school zones on their way to work, doctor's office, supermarket, etc.•Parents can use this day to get their teenagers started early on their weekend chores and / or have them run some of their errands. So, this shows that there are many ways to take advantage of this time off, despite the fear that these teenagers may be missing out on some learning. Besides, if this proposal is passed, class time will be extended to 110 minutes per class instead of the usual 45 minutes, which would help them really focus and delve into that subject. When I was in school in the late '90s, Fridays were always reserved for miscellaneous activities, tests taking (ugh!), and the option to watch a movie and / or play board games afterward. Yes, times may have passed since then, but many high school students today say that Fridays are still the same. If there is some truth to that, then a shorter school week will suit these kids just fine.
